‘Aloka Pooja’ lights up Tantirimale (www.sundaytimes.lk/040530)

Coinciding with the period of Poson Poya which falls during June 1, 2 and 3, the historic Thanthirimale Buddhist Shrine will be illuminated by an “Aloka Pooja” with the courtesy of Wijeya Newspapers (PVT) Limited.

The Thanthirimale Shrine is believed to have been built during the 3rd century BC and history has it that Bhikkuni Sanghamitta carrying the Sri Maha Bodhi Sapling rested here when on her way to Anuradhapura.

Thanthirimale is accessible both via Anuradhapura and Medawachchiya.
